The Parent – Teacher Association of Bishop’s College was established with its first General Meeting held on 6th July 1950. Over the last 75 years, the PTA has consistently strived to uphold its primary objective: “to assist the development and progress of the children, both at home and at school, by promoting understanding between parents and teachers.” 

In keeping with this mission, the Association identifies and implements various projects within the school. These include providing furniture and fittings to the hostel and day care center, installing lockers for students, paving the pathway at the James Pieris entrance, upgrading washroom facilities in the Standard Block, renovating the Athletics and Swimming Pool washrooms, the K. G. Hall and the stairs in the Peiris House.

The PTA also facilitates teacher training programs, distributes Avurudhu hampers to the support staff, part-sponsors the Christmas party organized by the Staff Guild, and provides scholarships and awards prizes to students.

Additionally, an Environmental Sub-Committee was established to ensure that the school remains clean, safe and dengue free, through continuous inspections in and around the premises. The PTA has also provided manpower for the Security Committee after the Easter bomb attack and later to the then-formed Covid-19 Response Team.

During the pandemic, the PTA funded 15% of the cost of 36 laptops purchased by the school for teachers. Two water filtration units were installed on school premises to ensure a continuous supply of drinking water for students

Furthermore, the PTA donated Rs. 2 million towards the construction of the new Advance Level building and another Rs. 2 million towards the development of sports facilities.

All of the above projects are made possible through income generated by fundraising events organized throughout the year, such as the “Amazing Purple Race” and the Sing-Along “Break Free” as well as through generous donations received from well-wishers.

The Association of Past Pupils known then as the Bishop’s College Association was set up as early as 1896.

Presently this Association is known as the Bishop’s College Past Pupils’ Association. It has grown to a membership base of 4600 members. The year 2022 marks the 126th year of the association.

The BC-PPA which has grown in strength has always been supportive and assisted in various projects for scholarships, bursaries and fund-raisers for the well-fare of the school. The PPA was anxious to gift an Auditorium to their Alma Mater, since the school hall, impressive in its day, was totally inadequate for the contemporary needs of the school. With land leased from the Government, The PPA laid the foundation stone for the Auditorium in 1985. With the rising costs in construction, the project was spread out longer than envisaged but was commissioned for use in 1994. The school, the PPA as well as the Parent-Teacher Association contributed in making this become a reality.
