National & International AL’s
National Advanced Levels
The National Advance Level Section of Bishops’ College prepares and guides students into the pathway of higher education. Over 25 subjects are offered in Science, Commerce and Arts streams which are prerequisites for tertiary studies for National and International universities. Subjects offered at Bishop’s College allow students to develop and specialize skills relevant to their chosen career paths.
The Section currently comprises of over 30 highly qualified teachers and a total body of 165 students.
The school provides many facilities for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Labs for students enrolled in Information and Communication Technology. Each section also consists of ample classrooms and certain specialized classrooms such as the Media Studies room and the Home Science room. Every student is given the option of selecting any of the following subjects in accordance with each stream of the National A/L section.

Throughout the year, each stream of the National A/L section engages in various activities which allow students to expand their scope in both academic and practical knowledge. Field Visits and Educational Excursions are organized annually along with subject based seminars for each subject, in order to support academic excellence at the final A/L examination.
In addition to the above, The Mediation Training Programme organized by the Ministry of Justice in Sri Lanka is held annually as an initiative to introduce the importance of mediation in a school environment.
The 2024 GCE A/L examination was held from the 25th of November to the 31st of December. A total of 63 students sat for the examination and 48 students; 76.19% qualified for University entrance. This year too it was proven beyond a doubt that students who had a good record of attendance and those who engaged in sports, extra and co-curricular activities secured very good grades at the GCE A/L examination.
The preparation and training received in the National A/L section of Bishop’s College open doors to apprenticeships, vocational training, and employment. Our students also develop their critical thinking, analytical and social skills, which equip them to handle the world beyond school. The commitment and efforts of the A/L section ensure shaping responsible, empowered young adults, ready to take on their future as well-balanced members of society.
International Advanced Levels
At Bishop’s College, our mission is to empower students to pursue higher education at prestigious universities around the world. Established in 2006, the International Advanced Level (IAL) section offers the globally recognized Pearson Edexcel curriculum in three streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. Currently, over 80 students are enrolled in our IAL program.
Students have the flexibility to choose one subject from each carefully curated subject basket, allowing them to tailor their education to their academic interests and future career paths.

Our Section
The strength of our IAL section lies in our dedicated and highly qualified teaching staff. Our team comprises 15 experienced teachers holding Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. All teachers are specially trained in delivering the International A/Level syllabus and regularly participate in professional development programs conducted by Pearson Edexcel.
Facilities
The International A/L section is housed in a newly constructed, purpose-built facility that provides students with a modern and comfortable learning environment. Classrooms are spacious and furnished with ergonomic furniture and interactive smartboards to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The students have access to science laboratories for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as a dedicated Computer Laboratory to support IT studies and practical coursework.
Higher Education Guidance
We are committed to guiding our students beyond the classroom. The IAL section conducts Higher Education Awareness Programs to introduce students to global study opportunities. We regularly host representatives from international universities who provide insight into various undergraduate courses and available scholarships.
As a UCAS-registered institution, Bishop’s College enables students to apply directly to universities in the UK.
We are also proud to have secured full scholarships for our students from institutions such as the Singapore Management University (SMU) and Tokyo International University (TIU), among others.

We take immense pride in the outstanding academic achievements of our students in the Pearson Edexcel examinations. Our students have been recognized at the Pearson Edexcel High Achievers Ceremony for securing top world rankings. Notable achievements include:
