Founders’ Day Commemoration

This year, the 148th Founders’ Day was celebrated on the 20th of January 2023. The day commenced with the Founders’ Day Commemoration service being held at the church of St. Michael & All Angels, Polwatta followed by the hoisting of the national flag and the school flag at the school premises by His Lordship Rt. Revd. Dushantha Rodrigo, the Bishop of Colombo and the principal Mrs. Chemali Goonetileke Herath.

This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the School Song by the Choristers who were in attendance. Next, the distinguished invitees were led to the basketball courtyard to witness a beautiful dance performance by the oriental dance students of the school.

The highlight of this year’s Founders’ Day celebrations was the official launch of the 150th Anniversary Logo and Web Page, titled, ‘2WD150’. The Chairperson of the 150th Anniversary Commemoration Executive Committee, Mrs. Shermila Antony Perera and her committee together with the school organized the launch in the Main School Hall. Beautiful decor, live piano and violin played by senior students created the perfect ambience for the occasion. Refreshments were served to the invitees on their arrival to the hall.

The event commenced with a prayer by His Lordship and an introduction/welcome by Mrs. Chemali Goonetileke Herath, Principal. A special video presentation depicting the story of a little girl as she enters the gates of Bishop’s College and her holistic development throughout her years at the school, transforming her to be a confident accomplished and humble young woman, written and narrated by the Head Prefect Tisari Vidanagama was presented.

The Chairperson Mrs. Shermila Antony Perera addressed the gathering. She introduced the story and the meaning behind the Logo, which attempted to encompass the ‘spirit of Bishop’s College’. She spoke of the proposed plans from 2023 onwards and to mark the beginning of the celebrations invited His Lordship and the principal to launch the Webpage and unveil the Logo.

A special limited-edition Notebook with a cover design of the sketch of the Main Office building was also printed and made available for sale on this day.
