Primary School
The Primary Section, spanning from grade 1 to 5, is home to a vibrant community of 650 energetic girls between the ages of 6 to 10 .The section consists of 25 classrooms ,with 5 parallel classes in each grade.
The curriculum followed is that prescribed by the Ministry of Education. From grade 1 onwards English language is introduced as a subject and is taught using enhanced, child-friendly learning methods. The medium of instruction remains either Sinhala or Tamil in keeping with the government regulations.
In line with promoting inclusivity and empathy Sign Language has been incorporated into the curriculum. This initiative not only strengthens communication but also fosters a sense of understanding and compassion amongst the students reinforcing the inclusive ethos practiced throughout the Primary Section.
A wide array of co -curricular activities is offered to encourage holistic development. Values such as honesty, integrity and empathy are central to the nurturing process undertaken by well-qualified and committed academic staff, numbering approximately 55. These educators are not only dedicated professionals but also collaborative team players, focused on instilling sound values in the young Bishopians entrusted to their care.
Their collective goal is to raise well- adjusted, responsible individuals who will walk through the hallowed halls of Bishop’s College and emerge as exemplary citizens of Sri Lanka and the world ,young women who will live by the school motto: “NON SIBI SED OMNIBUS”; Not for self but for all.
