Hockey

Hockey is a sport of agility, precision, and unity, values that are deeply rooted in proud Bishopion sporting tradition. As one of the school’s most competitive sports, our team is built on dedication, discipline, and the unwavering spirit of our players, coaches and teachers. Training takes place regularly under the guidance of our experienced coaches, focused on honing skill, fitness, and tactical awareness. Our team consists of 18 dedicated players representing Bishop’s College in the U20 age category.

Some of the past achievements of our team,

• Winning the 18th Annual LCBC Hockey Encounter 2024, bringing the shield back home.
• Placing 3rd in the Western Province Hockey Tournament and qualifying for the All-Island National Inter-Schools Tournament.

In 2025, Maika Tennekoon represented the U18 Sri Lanka National Team at the Junior Asia Cup held in Dazhou, China. Hannah Daniel, Dinara Kumar, Inakshi Bopearachchi, and Anaanya Silva were selected to represent the Colombo Schools Hockey Team at the Inter-District Schools Hockey Tournament 2025.

The team takes pride in organizing and participating in annual events, the most anticipated being the LCBC Hockey Encounter, which celebrates its 19th year in 2025. Along with this, we eagerly await tournaments such as the Blue and Golds Hockey 7s, All Island Championships, and other key competitions throughout the year.

Like every other sport at Bishop’s College, Hockey has its own vibrant Inter-House tournaments every year, held across age categories U14, U16, and U19. These matches not only build team spirit but also help discover rising talent within the school.
