The Social Service Club of Bishop’s College is built on the fundamental principle of community service, which is compassion. Under the motto of ‘We rise by lifting others’, the Social Service Club aims to instill in its members the value of helping those in need. Students can carry the lessons and experiences gained through club activities into their daily lives, thus, making them become more empathetic and understanding towards people in society. The club was formed somewhere before the year 1978, with the vision of developing love and compassion in the hearts of all Bishopians and making that part and parcel of our daily lives with the mission to educate and instill in our members the importance of self-worth and help them translate those lessons into acts of compassion towards others, keeping in mind our motto; ‘We rise by Lifting Others’. In 2013 the Social Service Club won the gold award at the Pearson Edexcel Community Service Awards and won the Silver Award in years 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 at the Pearson Edexcel Community Service Awards as well as the bronze award at the Pearson Edexcel Community Service Awards in the year 2017. The Social Service Club has organized many projects with the aim of social welfare, such as ‘Uniform Bank’ and ‘Altrua ’21’, whilst also organizing projects to raise awareness on the environment such as ‘Code Green’. In addition, the Social Service Club will be organizing ‘Entertainment Night ‘23’, during July, in collaboration with the Leo Club of Royal College to finance future projects of the club.
