Mediation Society
Description
“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it”
Mediation is a structured, interactive process where an impartial third party assists disputing parties in resolving conflict through the use of specialized communication and negotiation techniques. Throughout the years the Mediation Circle on Bishop’s College has successfully embodied the school motto ‘Non Sibi sed Omnibus’ by putting the needs of others before our own.

History
The Mediation Circle of Bishop’s College was formed in 2005, making it the longest running mediation programme among all Sri Lankan schools.
Since then our members have been actively involved in the art of conflict resolution, hosting workshops and programmes annually to improve the art of mediation among Bishopians.
We have also organized various assemblies to address the problematic issues such as peer pressure and maintaining good parent-child relationships.
Members of the mediation circle have also participated in workshops conducted by the YMCA and International Network for Peace.
Recent
The Mediation circle is in the process of completing our annual three-day mediation training programme conducted by the Ministry of Justice. Our first programme was held virtually via the Zoom platform, and 17 senior prefects along with 29 other students from Grade 13 participated. The workshop focused on peer mediation, addressing peaceful approaches to solve day to day issues faced by the student population of the school.
We look forward to the completion of our programme within this year.
