In 2019, we undertook a planting project near the school refectory. Society members actively contributed by bringing plants, soil, compost, and other necessary materials. We dedicated our time after school to carry out the planting, and we continue to maintain the garden by regularly watering the plants.
We visited an Elder's Home in Moratuwa, where we not only donated essential items but also planted a few plants in their garden, enriching their surroundings.
Every year, we organize the "Keep BC Clean" project to ensure the cleanliness of our school. This initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility for cleanliness among the students.
We organized a Plant Sale within the school premises to promote tree planting among our students, encouraging them to contribute to a greener environment.
We actively strive to maintain the cleanliness of the school grounds, which are utilized for various activities, including the annual inter-house sports meet.
The society organizes nature-friendly field trips every other year, providing students with the opportunity to experience and appreciate the beauty of our environment.
- Participation in the 'Plant Trees, Plant Life' Program:
In 2019, we actively participated in the 'Plant Trees, Plant Life' program organized by the Diocese of Colombo at Urumiwella Estate, Bulathkohupitiya, Kegalle.
The Health and Environmental Society, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, played a crucial role in marking the school premises with painted arrows, serving as evacuation points in case of emergencies.
- "Be Creative" Online Project:
We organized an online project titled 'Be Creative,' where students showcased their creativity by creating DIYs using waste materials, promoting the concept of recycling and upcycling.
- Best Environmental Project’21:
In 2021, we organized a fashion show where students of Bishop's College designed fashionable attire using recycled materials. Students from grades 6 to 11 participated enthusiastically, delivering speeches related to the theme of "Ecosystem Restoration."
A joint initiative with the Interact Club of Bishop's College, where we established and maintained an herbal garden within the school premises. We collected over a hundred herbal plants donated by our own students, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of medicinal plants in a time when western medicine has taken a predominant role.
- Best Environmental Project’22:
The Best Environmental Project is an annual project conducted by the Health and Environment Society. The competition took place in the college main hall on the 13th of June 2023. Students were requested to make hydroponic systems, which is a beneficial farming method specially in densely populated urban areas.
- Plant donation program by the Leo Club of Royal College:
The Leo Club of Royal College organized a remarkable plant donation project, and we had the privilege of attending this program. This project aimed to promote environmental sustainability and enhance green spaces within the community.
The Health and Environmental Society organized both Senior and Junior General Assemblies in the month of June to commemorate World Environment Day. Under the theme of "Solutions to Plastic Pollution," these assemblies aimed to raise awareness about the pressing issue of plastic pollution and explore effective solutions to combat it.
Best Environmental Project’23, Conserve’23, Class Beautification Project’23
