Bishop’s College has been known for its theatre showmanship since the 1800s.
The English Drama society aims to provide a stage for those who are interested in pursuing their love for theatre. It also creates a learning environment for the students to learn the art of performing, by conducting various workshops and programmes related to theatre. The passion for drama continues to grow among the students at Bishop's College as the years go by.
It started off with drama classes conducted in school and thereafter the Drama Society was part of the English Literary Association and then subsequently it broke away and formulated a separate society, with our pioneer directress Mrs. Irene Wanigaratne.
The Annual All-Island Shakespeare Competition at which Bishop's College emerged Champions in the years 2018 and 2019, remains one of the biggest events of the drama club.
Other events such as the “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon”, and “Happily Ever After?” are notable events organised by our society.
Producing young actresses capable of multitasking many roles in the theatre such as acting, directing and backstage is what our club aims to do.
