The Bishop’s College Tamil Literary Society was founded in 1983 by Mrs. Ratnes Eswarathas with the motive of creating a vast opportunity to exhibit talents, striving to create a leading student body by providing opportunities to acquire proficiency in the Tamil language and rich culture. It aims to foster an inspiration for language, enhance literary creativity and provide an avenue for Tamil Literature and Drama beyond the academic curriculum.

Brief History

The Tamil Literary Society of Bishop’s College, was initiated in order to develop language skills of students by manifesting and providing insight into the utmost significance of Tamil language. With a 40-year legacy, the society has successfully provided a wide range of opportunities for students to expand their knowledge by engaging in several competitions and activities, which has led to many achievements, throughout the past years.

What the society does

Throughout the past decades, the Tamil Literary Society has been involved in multiple projects and events, encouraging students to become orators and display their intellectual, independent thinking skills and imbibe a sense of confidence, highlighting the significance of the language. By conducting literary and drama competitions in all forms including oratory, extempore, drama, essay and short story writing, we aspire to create a platform for our students to encourage their appreciation for the language and its arts. The Tamil Literary and Drama society strongly believes that the projects conducted in past, present and future will certainly enable students with opportunities to enhance their proficiency in Tamil language and skills.
