The executive committee of the Bishop’s College PPA headed by Mrs. Savithri Wijesekera was
appointed in 2009, for a period of two years; and thus a new committee will be appointed at the Annual
General Meeting which is scheduled to take place on the 12th of November 2011.
The committee organized the Christmas fellowship event ‘Colours of Christmas’ at the Water’s Edge on
the was held on the 7th of December 2010. This event was very well attended
I’m indeed proud to announce that it was during this tenure that we witnessed the appointment of our very
own committee member, Ms. Sharmila Gunatilleke to the post of Principal of Bishop’s College who took
office in May after the retirement of Mrs. Hemamali Bibile. While thanking Mrs. Bibile for all the hard work
put in, to lift the standards of the school and for having been instrumental in several renovations and
modifications to many parts of the school, we wish Ms. Sharmila Gunatilleke the very best for the future
endeavours as Principal. The PPA is pleased and honoured to be able to work hand in hand with you,
towards the advancement of our Alma Mater.
In September 2011, the committee organized the fabulous ‘Purpleicious’ - the annual dinner dance of the
PPA, which was held at the Water’s Edge. This event was a roaring success. It was organized by a
special dance committee chaired by Chemali Herath and Exco member and Vice President Mrs. Michele
Wickramasekera. Purplicious was an event not to have been missed. All, young and old danced the night
away in style till the crack of dawn.
The Distress Fund commenced by the ExCo has been getting quite a number of generous donations and
we are grateful to all those members who have so contributed. We urge our past pupils to continue to
support this fund which is dedicated to teachers who have served for over 25 years in school, as we
believe that we have to give back to those who have sacrificed their lives for our upbringing and
education.
The Past Pupils’ Association of Bishop’s College has next planned the staging of ‘Sthri Lanka’, a drama
written by Sandra Fernando and directed by Nafisa Amirudeen, both of who are past pupils who have
excelled in the field of theatre. Sthri Lanka will be staged in February next year and we look forward to
your support in making our very own theatre production a success.
In conclusion I’d like to thank Ms. Sharmila and Mrs Cheryl Cooray for the support extended to the PPA at
all times. We also wish the incoming ExCo of the PPA the very best of luck for the future.
